The Kimono Trends

Blake Lively wore hers on the Cannes red carpet, Kourtney Kardashian styled hers with some simple denim cut-offs, and Miley, well, Miley rocked hers with everything! Kimonos are the new celebrity favourite, and we don’t blame them, their versatility knows no bounds!

They appeal to our desire for boho chic, achieving the perfect balance between elegance and ease, taking the most basic outfit from dull to eye catching with their floral and ethnic inspired prints, and fringe trims. Dressed up or down, they make great cover ups over fringed bikinis, or an elegant evening gown, completing the look effortlessly, even if, like Kourtney, we’re just keeping it casual.

Kimonos aren’t just for music festivals.  They can perfectly compliment your everyday wardrobe too. Plus, the floaty, carefree style makes for the perfect layer for those summer nights that have a hint of chill. Throw it on over your casual outfit for class (denim shorts + white tank + kimono = perfection.) You can wear it out to dinner (try it over black jeans and a black tank), it’s a piece that flatters everyone thanks to its loose cut and open front. Whether it’s a long brightly patterned kimono you covet or a waist length number in monochrome or tie- dye, there’s a style for you.
Whichever one appeals, you deserve a treat. Read our tips on how to pick and style your kimono just like Kourtney K herself!
1. Figure out your style. Are you into fringe?  Comfortable with bold floral prints? Kimonos come in many shapes and styles. So having a good idea of what you want will help you narrow down the selection.
2. Treat it like a cardigan. Owning an interesting piece like a kimono can often make you want to save it for a knock out outfit or a cocktail dress. But if you wear it like your favourite cover up (aka with everything), then you’ll be surprised to see just how many more outfits it goes with, making it the ultimate in versatility.
3.  Balance it out. If a maxi length kimono is your thing, then try styling it with some casual cut-off shorts and a pair of high-heeled booties. Balance your outfits but don’t forget to be adventurous too. A mid-length kimono in a striking floral print can totally transform a look, especially if you pair it with something unexpected like a conservative day dress.
